On July 24-25th brand owners, retailers, collectors, enthusiasts, the media and the community will converge on Hagerstown Maryland with the aim of enjoying horology and spirits. This two day event places the customers of the brands and exhibitors at the heart of its focus, allowing customers to get close to watches that are generally only available for purchase online or are retailers overseas. Representatives from each of watch companies will be available to provide the most up to date information on all the latest watch styles and complications. Small local distilleries, wineries and breweries will also be offering hidden gems to sample. In addition, there will be dedicated rooms and tables apart from the main vendor areas where enthusiasts may display their own collections, just like a typical watch get-together, allowing for exchanges, sales, conversation, and networking.

Mark Bennett, operation director of Sangamon Watch Company and I drove three hours from Springfield and attended the microLUX CHICAGO exhibition which was a two-day free event and brought together independent and microbrand luxury watch brands, watch enthusiasts and industry insiders. microLUX CHICAGO was held at Artspace 8 in downtown Chicago this weekend. Thanks to the organizer and sponsors, microLUX CHICAGO was free of charge!
We were glad to see more than 30 brands and, in many cases, meeting the founders, designers and owners from all over the US, Germany, Singapore, Switzerland and other countries. We truly enjoyed seeing different designs and had great conversations with company founders and designers. I was very impressed by L&JR watches from Geneva Switzerland and decided to collect one! We also liked C-47 D-Day watches from TOCKR in Austin Texas and Ocean diver watches from TWELF-X in Singapore.
The event was very well organized. Hopefully we will showcase our own Sangamon timepieces at next year’s event.

It is the fourth annual event presented by The Time Bum blog and Maryland watchmaker McDowell Time, featuring very affordable timepieces from around the world. Visitors will discover a wide variety of watches from both emerging watchmakers and established brands, as well as a selection of vintage pieces. Most of the watches on display are usually only available online, so it is a rare opportunity for DC watch fans to get their hands on the real thing before they buy.
