As Sangamon Watch Company is planning to launch our first aviation related “pilot watch” collection next year, our team made a quick trip to The National Museum of the United States Air Force located at Wright- Patterson Air Force Base, northeast of Dayton Ohio. The museum is the world’s oldest and largest military aviation museum, with more than 360 aircraft and missiles on the display. The museum draws about a million visitors each year, making it one of the most frequently visited tourist attractions in Ohio. The museum is a central component of the National Aviation Heritage Area.

If you have got interest in aviation history, military aircrafts, or the like, the museum is a must-see attraction. Besides four hangars full of virtually every United States Air Force aircraft ever produced, there is a great gift shop, IMAX theatre, and an adjacent outdoor park with memorials to military veterans of WW II, Korea, Vietnam and Iraq War. This is a two-day museum, give yourself plenty of time so that you can take a lot photos and learn more about aviation history. Admission and parking are free, but there is a separate charge for the IMAX Theater and flight simulator. The museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
