Springfield is the proud home of Sangamon Dock and state capital of Illinois. Springfield was a leader in US watchmaking in the late 19th century and home of the Illinois Watch Company. It was one of the cities largest employers and eventually sold out to Hamilton Watch Company in 1927. Pocket watches from Illinois Watch Company such as the Bunn Special and Sangamo Special are still highly sought-after by watch enthusiasts around the world.
